3Adult Lunchbox  May 06, 2009 By Doug Snell "dwsj"
I bought this product as an adult - to use as I carry my lunch to work every day. I thought it was probably designed for children but I didn't care, I thought it was cute and having fun accessories helps me to take the time to pack my lunch every night. I'm also sick of using baggies and disposable containers each day, so I wanted something I could clean and reuse.

I really like the lunch box but it has a couple challenges.

Challenge 1: There is only one container with a lid, other than the tiny dip container. This means that I have to wrap all the other containers with plastic wrap - which defeats my hope of using less plastic baggies/disposable items. If you're packing just about anything without using a lid or plastic wrap, it's going to rattle around as you carry the box and shake into the other items. This is especially true if you're carrying something moist, like mashed potatoes or something loose like taco meat and shredded cheese. Only one container with a lid is not enough. It also means that if you're carrying anything crunchy in the open containers, it's going to get stale by lunchtime. I had this happen with crackers, chips, and even cookies. The flavors also absorb into each other if you have chips in one and cookies in another. I have just found that I have to cover each container with plastic wrap. A lid for each container would solve this easily. I wish that was available.

Challenge 2: As much as I love the box, I find that I have to eliminate things from my lunch that won't fit in the tiny container - or just carry a separate bag with the box. This is where an actual lunch bag or fabric container would make more sense. Things like apples and bananas won't fit unless they're cut up and if they're cut up they're quick to brown.

Challenges aside, I think the lunchbox is fun and easy to use. I will continue to use it as well as another BYO fabric lunch bag I purchased to carry on days I have items that won't fit in this box.

4Great for picky eaters.  Jul 19, 2010 By Kathy U.
I love that it separates all the food. However my daughter complains that when I put canned pineapples or peaches in one of the containers, the juices from the fruits will spread to the rest of the food therefore spoiling everything. I also don't understand why they new containers with lid cannot fit in the original laptop lunch which defeats the purpose of saving money because I would have to buy another set. Overall, it's great for picky eaters and dry food but I suggest to buy the newer version that comes with lids so it doesn't spill everywhere.

5I love Laptop Lunches!  Aug 09, 2009 By The Greenwood School "Ms. Tracy"
I'm a preschool teacher, and most of our students are using these boxes. They fit in the child's igloo cooler (8 Liter size) with a cold pack and a water bottle. We are in Texas and the heat is a challenge with child favorites like yogurt. Our school does not allow disposable packaging, so this is a great way for parents to pack an assortment of food. The box colors add color to to the presentation of the lunch which seems to make children more interested in their food. The teachers love the ease of setting out these lunches. They help prevent the spread of germs because we have very little contact with the lunch items. Even our 2-year olds can open and close the box. We do help with the individual tops if they need us. When lunch is over, the child closes the box, drops it into the cooler and is off to nap. After nap if they want more, they just open the box and have left overs for a snack. Kids like their items to stay separate and the box does that. Parents don't seem to mind the extra expense of buying more tops since the box comes with only one top. One child's fork broke this week, but that is a first and I'm not sure what she did that led to the handle breaking. Regualr utensils fit anyway, so I don't think they will be in a bind. More information is available at the laptop web site.

1Food Mixes up  Nov 05, 2009 By S. Kapteyn "-sjk"
I was so looking forward to using this system. But the top lid does not close properly and every food from pretzel crumbs to pita bread mix with each other. When you open it up the food looks awful and of course the kid won't eat it. I contacted the company they sent me another box but it still has the same problem. Here I was trying to be environmental with reusable containers. Now I have a bunch of containers sitting on the shelf and not gettting used at all.
