Very good brush for the price... Sep 01, 2010
By Thrown-Clear This was the first brush I purchased after cutting my teeth on a small "Art of Shaving" brush that came with a starter set.
"Pure Badger" is the "lowest grade" of badger hair used for brushes. It is stiffer and (some might say) more "prickly" than mid-grade "Best (or Super)Badger" and the highest grade "Silver-Tip Badger."
The stiffness of Pure Badger is actually why I chose it. If you want a silky, soft pillow floating around your face, get a Silver-Tip. I didn't. I wanted a stiffer brush that I could feel scrubbing and ex-foliating my skin.
This is a nice medium-sized brush, it lathers extremely well and is stiff enough to create great lather with a soap puck (another thing silver-tip has trouble with) and with a shaving cream.
The brush is very well constructed, has shed very little (all new shaving brushes lose a few hairs per shave for a few weeks), and (not stated in the product review) comes with a plastic stand to hang the brush from. I highly recommend this brush.
Please note: Whatever grade of badger-brush you choose, you're going to find out what a badger smells like. All new brushes have a slightly "wild" smell for awhile. This brush's funk disappeared fairly quickly - mostly gone after a week or so.
