2Worthless soaps. Money better spent elsewhere.  Jan 23, 2012 By Josh S
The scents are nearly indistinguishable. None of them lather particularly well and when I did manage to whip up a workable cream (with about 8 gallons of elbow grease) it lacked slickness.

I get better results from VDH and Col. Conk soaps. Load up on those or spend your money on a quality product like Tabac, Mitchell's Wool, or QED. Any of them will outlast these three little pucks and provide you with infinitely better shaves while they do it.

Sorry, Edwin Jagger, but you're better off sticking to razors.

3Product NOT as pictured!  Jan 15, 2012 By bkfist
The picture of this product is flat-out WRONG... If you were planning on purchasing this 3-pack of soap and gifting one or more of the pucks in a nice-looking box, please be warned that this product does NOT come in 3 separate boxes as pictured.

The product is packaged in a single box, with the 3 pucks of soap separately wrapped in plastic. The box IS an official Edwin Jagger box with appropriate graphics and such, but it is a single box.

As for the product itself, I enjoy Edwin Jagger soaps and get good lather from the product. I know that some people have difficulty loading enough product to get a good dense lather from EJ soaps, but I get around this by using EJ soaps as a "soap stick" by rubbing the puck directly on my face, then taking a wet shaving brush to the face and face lathering the product.

If you insist on lathering the brush directly on the puck of soap, you might be somewhat disappointed in the lather produced by this product unless you load the puck a bit longer than you might for some other soaps.

The sandalwood version of this soap has very little in common with what you might typically expect to find, which to me is a GOOD thing. (I had used a sample of EJ sandalwood cream before ordering this product, so I knew what to expect, and is actually the reason for ordering this 3-pack... I do not like the typical oriental-ish strong sandalwood scents of other sandalwood soaps.) I was planning on gifting the other two pucks of soap (I already have the Sea Buckthorn, and knew I was not a fan of the aloe scented product - again from a previous cream sample. If you like aloe scents, the aloe version IS very true to form, and mild.) I will still give the other two pucks away, but am disappointed that they were not in individual boxes as pictured.

3I really WANTED to like this soap  Nov 11, 2011 By C. Schimanski
The EJ shave soaps are what they describe, hard milled shave soap. They smell great, lather well enough. Just that hard soaps tend to NOT have the glycerin in them to make your skin slick.

I've tried the EJ, the Colonel, etc. I must say, as a real connoisseur of high end shave products, I've tried a lot and know what I like.

The EJ soaps, not for me, I'll - don't laugh - stick with the Van der Hagen. Their soap works! Plain, simple & cheap. Nice slickness to it, I get no bumps, no nicks, etc.

I like the EJ brushes, better than cheap-o tweezerman, they are nice.

I like the Parker hand carved horn HANDLE ONLY. The top of the Parker was crap.

I do use the EJ shave head on the Parker handle. The EJ handle, very nice in chrome, I just don't want to hold a metal handle every morning. I kept the EJ handle for my travel razor, but couldn't use the Parker shave head, that was garbage. I put a Merkur head on the EJ handle. While I find the Merkur - middle-of-the-road - the diamond pattern on the Merkur handle was funky feeling. So, I have the High-quality EJ head on the High-quality Parker horn handle. The High-quality EJ handle on the decent Merkur head and I've trashed the Parker head (it was trash anyway) and I've trashed the Merkur handle.

I like my EJ brushed nickel shave bowl too. Didn't want a bowl that would either a) break itself if dropped or b) break something else if dropped.

All in all - like EJ products in general, not their soaps in particular.
