I am shocked something that costs so much is so ergonomically unfriendly. I was trying to be environmentally responsible and move away from disposable lighters. I have huge parties and need to light over 40 candles at a time. By the time i lit half of the candles, my thumb was so sore that i had to get someone else to light the rest. It is so hard to push the button for the flame and it has ridges for traction, but they make your thumb so sore. I had the party two days ago and my thumb is still hurting. It total, it took four people to light the candles and they all had the same complaint: it is too hard to push and it hurts my thumb. i am returning mine.

We were disappointed with the appearance and function and replaced it right away with a Colibri. Dull metal surface covered with bumps. Hard to adjust flame.

I bought this item in spite of the negative reviews and I'm glad I took a chance or I would have missed out on a nice item. I received the item promptly and it was nicely packaged and would look nice if given as a gift. It came already filled so I was able to use it right out of the box. It looks very stylish and I'll definitely leave it out. It feels nice in my hand, looks attractive, and appears to be well-made. I had no problem with the lever and the lighter lit the first time. I like that it is refillable and has an adjustable flame.
I had previously purchased the Zippo mini lighter but I found it hard to operate as you must press a button while pushing the lever. However, the main drawback of the Zippo was its short length; it was of limited use to me as it was not long enough to reach many of the wicks I wanted to light, such as those in some Wolfard oil lamps I use. The length of the Wickman makes it ideal for almost any type of candle or oil lamp I want to light.
Finally, the price on Amazon was very good. Compared to lighters costing 3 times as much or more, this lighter is definitely a good value.
So,give the Wickman a try and don't be turned away by some of the negative reviews. I'm happy with my purchase!

I purchased this for my mother to replace one that she had years ago and lost. The lighter is very pretty and easy to refill - great quality too!

it is nearly impossible to get the wickman candle lighter to light up. the switch takes a lot of effort to push forward. i can only get it to work one out of five times. and if the flame goes out quickly when it does light up, then i have to start all over again! my fingerprints will be all wiped away if i keep trying to use the wickman candle lighter. i'm surprised this item is on amazon at all!
