This works for both woodwick and regular wicked candles. I wish I had bought this a long time ago. This one is a gift for my Louisiana-Born daughter (the Fleur de Lis is worn by the New Orleans Saints), and I bought myself a plain trimmer. But no matter the artistry, this makes is so much easier to trim candle wicks and avoid the black-smoking-soot that happens when the candle wick is too long. This makes it easy to trim wicks the appropriate 1/8-1/4 inch for safety and to avoid soot.
